Getting electrical work inspected in Cumming: the City and County inspection rules
A permit is only half the process; the inspection is the part that checks the work. Whether you are inside the City of Cumming or in unincorporated Forsyth County, electrical work is inspected at stages, and the permit holder is the one who requests each inspection. Knowing the steps helps you plan drywall, utility work and move-in dates around them.
Inside the city, the electrical permit application states that all electrical work must be inspected and that one day advance notice is required for all inspections. In the county, the residential renovation checklist says inspections are required throughout the project and at completion, and that the required inspections vary by permit type.
City of Cumming: how to request an inspection
The City's inspection page lists what you need when you call: the building permit number, the project name, the project address, your name and phone number, and the type of inspection. Requests must be made no later than the day before the inspection is needed, by phone Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The City does not accept voicemail inspection requests. The building permit card must be posted at the site, in clear view and protected from the weather, before any inspection.
Required inspections on the City's list include under-slab electrical, electrical rough-in and electrical final, along with the other trades and a final inspection for the certificate of occupancy. If the work does not meet code at the time of inspection, or the inspector cannot enter, the City bills a $25.00 re-inspection fee, which must be paid before power is turned on and before a certificate of occupancy is issued.
Forsyth County: scheduling and inspection types
The County's renovation checklist gives the Inspection Scheduling Team number as 770-781-2114, option 1, for owners who are unsure which inspections apply or how to schedule them. The residential inspections page describes a combination rough inspection, a complete inspection of all trades including framing, electrical, mechanical, gas and plumbing, before walls are covered.
The County inspects electrical work on one- and two-family dwellings to the 2023 National Electrical Code. For renovation permits, its checklist says smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are required and will be inspected and tested under sections R314 and R315 of the residential code. The County's electrical affidavit also notes a temporary power connection to service utilities is required before final inspection where one applies.

Keep the permit card visible, make the panel and work areas accessible, and leave rough-in wiring uncovered until it passes. For a service upgrade, the utility usually reconnects power after the final electrical inspection; the City says it will not turn power on until all fees and permits are paid.
